Safe C/VC Choices
KL Rahul, Axar Patel
5) STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
(i) Poor Winning Percentage - They have a below 50% win percentage against every team except the Titans, and even at both their designated home grounds for the 2025 season. They are only one-time finalists, and haven't been able to qualify for the playoffs since the past 3 seasons either. Their historic record has been very mediocre, but they would want to change it this year with their revamped team.
(ii) A quality playing combination, but an inexperienced bench - The ideal XII above looks a very high quality combination, with enough experience and an excellent bowling unit, but apart from Mohit Sharma, none of the players at the bench are experienced enough in the IPL to be able to give an equal replacement to any of the players in the playing combination.
(iii) A non-attacking top order - With both Faf and Rahul more of technical players and not exactly attackers, they may come with enough experience but the way they start in the powerplay overs will be crucial in every game through the season. With McGurk and Stubbs coming into this season in a poor form, and Karun Nair also being a technical player, their batting order looks really good and experienced but will be interesting to see how this top 5 performs through the season.
(iv) One of the best bowling units - Starc-Natarajan-Kuldeep-Mukesh-Mohit-Chameera and their captain Axar. This is probably one of the best looking Bowling units amongst all the 10 teams this season. They have a LAO and an LWS bowler, two who can take the ball away from the right handers and left handers respectively. They may lack a quality powerplay bowling unit alongside Starc, but they do have 5 quality death over bowlers, with all their seamers equally capable to deliver at the death phase.
