5) STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
A) STRENGTHS
(i) Recent form of key players - Surya, Rohit, Archer and David are all in top form right now and have been contributing with bat/ball in every game recently, especially in the limited overs format. Kishan on the back of a double century in an ODI recently, and Green having proved to be a good powerplay specialist with the bat for the Aussies at the top order. Their key players would want to continue their good form this season, and hope the law of averages don't catch up with them when it matters the most.
(ii) A young unit - Apart from Rohit, Surya and Piyush, the remaining 20 players of the squad are all below 30 years of age, and are all exciting young future prospects, and can be groomed into really good all round players in the long run. They would all also be highly motivated to give their best whenever they get the opportunity to play as well as learn the best with such an amazing coaching staff.
B) WEAKNESSES
(iii) An inconsistent and inexperienced unit - Having a young unit helps in motivation and to look at future prospects, but that also means that their unit is inexperienced with respect to pressure situations. And when you see atleast 3 uncapped players in the Playing XI itself, you know how much the Mumbai Indians have come down in terms of the quality of their overall XI from earlier seasons. The XI that they have are also not a very consistent unit. Rohit, Kishan, Green, and David aren't consistent performers with the bat, and Jhye's injury adds to their seam attack woes after Bumrah had already been ruled out earlier.
6) NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SQUAD FROM IPL 2022
(i) Cameron Green - Purchased by MI for 17.5Cr, he's become one of the most expensive players in the history of IPL Auction. His contribution to the team this season would highly depend on where and how is he used by the team. He has opened for Australia in 7 T20Is where he has scored only 137 runs, but at a huge strike rate of 190, and he has only played one inning below that opening position, which was at No.6, and scored only 2 runs in that inning. He is also a good part time bowling option for the side, and can become the ideal replacement to Pollard in their XI, who is now their mentor.
(ii) Vishnu Vinod - A wicket keeper batsman from Kerala. He can bat as either an opener or as a finisher, and has played both roles successfully for Kerala in the domestic circuit. He has been in the domestic set-up since 2014, and has played 51 T20 games, having scored 1,236 runs at an average of 33, and a strike rate of 141. He's the only other Indian wicket keeping option in the squad, apart from Kishan. He has played 3 IPL games till date, though has failed to make a mark, with just 19 runs at a strike rate of 73.
(iii) Piyush Chawla - The most experienced IPL bowler for the Mumbai Indians. If you scroll below, you'll see only his name even in the Top Wicket Takers in the All-Time records. He has been a wicket taker for the various franchises he's played for. Although, he didn't play in the 2022 season, and also only played one game in the 2021 season, he would hope to be part of the MI's frontline XI due to his experience, and would like to add more wickets to his name in the IPL. He was part of the MI set-up when he last played in 2021, and after a year gap from the IPL, he's back with them.
(iv) Duan Jansen - This left arm seamer from South Africa has picked up 24 wickets in the 30 T20 games he's played. Though the strike rate is above 24, his economy rate is only 8, and he usually ends up bowling on tight lengths. He was the leading wicket taker in the inaugural season of the 6ixty Tournament held right before the CPL 2022.
(v) Nehal Wadhera - This left handed batsman from Punjab hasn't played a single limited over fixture till date in competitive cricket, but has played 5 first class games, having scored 376 runs, at an average of 53.7. He is a stylish technically sound batsman, and also bowls legspin as a part time bowler when needed. His recent form would show a double century as well as a century in a span of a few innings, showing his potential with the bat.
(vi) Raghav Goyal - He hasn't played any competitive cricket before this. Even in the last season, MI came up with Kartikeya and Shokeen as young exciting spinners, and it's the dame case with Goyal. He's a left arm spinner who has been part of the MI Academy and been scouted by the management from there. No games or scores to prove his stats or his consistency, but is known to be an exciting young talent for a future prospect.
(vii) Shams Mulani - One of the most sought-after Indian domestic player, playing for Mumbai. He is a good spin bowling all rounder, having played 26 first class matches, 43 List A matches, and 35 T20 games in his domestic career span till date. In the 35 games, he's picked up 40 wickets, at an economy rate of less than 7, and has scored 127 runs at a strike rate of 117. He is known to be an economical bowler putting pressure on the batsmen with his tight lengths.
7) STATS FROM OVER THE YEARS (as part of any team before this)
(i) Top Run Scorers
-> Rohit Sharma - Runs (5879), Avg (30.30) - 227M/222I

(ii) Top Wicket Takers
-> Piyush Chawla - Wickets (157), Avg (27.39), SR (20.85) - 165M/164I
8) UNKNOWN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR IF THEY PLAY
(i) Mohd Arshad Khan - This left arm seamer from Madhya Pradesh made his debut in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and ended up playing only 3 matches in it, as he only managed to get 2 wickets in those, and hasn't played competitive cricket since then. His economy in those 3 games was 6.45, and also scored 40 runs at a strike rate of 125.
(ii) Akash Madhwal - This right arm seamer from Uttarakhand has been part of the MI Academy for the past couple of seasons, and has finally been taken into the squad from the Auction. He has played 22 T20 games till date, and has picked up 24 wickets, at a decent economy rate of 7.43. He is an economical bowler in the limited overs format, having bowled at an economy of less than 5 even in the List A format, and also does get a wicket in almost every game he plays.
(iii) Kumar Kartikeya - This left arm chinaman bowler from Madhya Pradesh has been having a dream run in the domestic season, and probably has the best recent form data amongst the entire squad. A consistent wicket taker and has also scored runs down the order too. He has played 18 T20 games in the domestic circuit, having picked up 19 wickets, at a mere economy of just 6.7. He also played 4 IPL games for MI in the previous season, and picked up 5 wickets, at an economy rate of less than 8, and is a good young prospect in the side.
