Players to watch out for, this season -
DC
1. Rishabh Pant - The new skipper of the side and in a red-hot form in 2021. He has proved to be a match winner in every format of the game for India in the last 3 months and hitting reverse sweeps of deliveries bowled at over a 140kmph shows the confidence that he's playing with. In the absence of Shreyas Iyer in the side, he would be the most crucial player for them on these Indian wickets and he would love to continue his current form over here too.
2. Prithvi Shaw - Ever since he took some training from the great Rahul Dravid, he has looked in an exceptional form with the bat. His last T20 fixtures were in the IPL 2020 season, which was a horrific season for him, but the way he has played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021, he is looking to get back into the radar of selection after a bad phase of poor scores. And he could be a treat to watch as an opener this season with the confidence gained from the domestic formats.
3. Kagiso Rabada - The purple cap winner of the 2020 season, and the 2nd highest wicket taker of the 2019 season, he has been on a roll ever since he's joined the Capitals. Ahead of the World Cup 2021 which is also to be held in India, he would love to perform on these Indian wickets and enter the top 3 wicket takers list for the third time in a row this season. He is the team's most crucial bowler and a consistent wicket taker as well.
4. Lukman Meriwala - The young Indian domestic uncapped star. He's the only Left Arm seam option available in the entire squad and could be utilized really well by the team management as the tournament goes on. He was the 2nd highest wicket taker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2021 season and if he gets the chance to feature in the XI, he could be a player to watch out for.
5. Lalit Yadav - In 5 matches, he had scored 152 runs, at a strike rate of 197.40, a batting average of 152, and 7 wickets to his name, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy'2021. He was a part of the DC squad last year as well but didn't get a chance to feature in the XI, but now with the absence of Iyer, the team could look for an aggressive finisher for the team in him and could give him some games as the tournament goes on, especially now as the tournament is back in India. He plays for Delhi and would love to perform alongside his state teammates Shikhar, Ishant and Pant, at this stage now.
6. Anrich Nortje - He came in last season as a replacement to Chris Woakes in the side, and made a mark with the ball straightaway. Probably the duo, which the Capitals had been looking for in the previous seasons, was now fulfilled by Rabada and Nortje bowling in tandum. He bowled exceptionally well in the 2020 season and was the 4th highest wicket taker, and also showed some finishing skills with the bat in the lower order. He had a good CSA T20 2021 season as well, and would love to perform well on these Indian wickets and yet again compliment Rabada with the ball from the other end.
7. Marcus Stoinis - Give him the role of a finisher or an opener, he never fails to impress. Even with the ball, he'll either create pressure on the opposition by restricting the scoring rate or by collecting wickets. He is surely the best all rounder in this side and no matter what role is given to him, he'd do justice to it just the way he did in the 2020 season. Ahead of the T20 World Cup, he'd love to perform under Smith and Ponting, on these Indian wickets and make a mark here this season.
