Players to watch out for, this season -
1. Suresh Raina - He has been the IPL run machine over the last 13 seasons and has played for CSK in every season where CSK has featured in the tournament, but just missed the previous season. And now, he's back in Yellow and training hard alongwith MSD and Faf, and would be looking forward to get going once again in the yellow jersey.
2. Ruturaj Gaikwad - He ended with 3 consecutive 50s to his name in the 2020 edition and will be looking forward to be the team's regular opener in the absence of Watson and would look to have another great season and join the India A squad for the Asia Cup.
3. Ambati Rayudu - He has been their key middle order batsman in the previous couple of seasons and has not only held one end but has scored at a healthy strike rate as well and has played consistently in every game. He would, once again, be the key to CSK's middle order batting.
4. Lungi Ngidi - He is a consistent wicket taking bowler and is the fastest bowler in the squad as well. He has been doing well for South Africa and even for his domestic franchises out there. And, yet again he would be their key death bowler alongside Shardul to restrict the opposition to the least possible and also get wickets in that process.
5. Harishankar Reddy - The video of him cleaning up MSD during the training session itself speaks of the abilities that this young Indian uncapped player possesses. He had a great season at the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2021 as well, and would be eagerly waiting to perform on this platform as well, whenever he gets the opportunity to feature in the XI. He is a great prospective talent, and do watch out for him when he does feature in the starting XI.
6. Sam Curran - He is joining the CSK camp right after scoring an unbeaten 95 in the 3rd ODI against India, and showed prowess with the bat as well. And well, everyone knows his ability to swing the new ball both ways to deceive the batsmen. He is proving to be a worthy all rounder and can also be used as an opening batsman to utilize the powerplay for an aggressive start, and he's also the only left arm seam option that the team has.
7. Shardul Thakur - He has been a consistent wicket taker for India and also one of the best players to be used as a finisher. He had a great domestic season with both bat and ball for Mumbai as well, and he's high on confidence, and under MSD, he'd be utilized as a partnership breaking bowler and he can even produce the desire results.
8. Ravindra Jadeja - Post injury, this is going to be his first tournament, and ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021, he would be looking forward to not only get back into match fitness but also get his finishing abilities back into action like last season and would be looking to even perform well with the ball this time after a not-so-good 2020 edition.
9. Krishnappa Gowtham - The most expensive Indian buy in this year's IPL Auction, going for 9.25Cr. He would be their lone Indian off spin option and would also be playing the role of a finisher as he has been doing well with the bat domestically too. Joining Jadeja, MSD, Bravo and Shardul, he would also like to show some fearless finishing abilities of his whenever needed, but ofcourse he was bought for his bowling abilities and now he'd have to prove his auction price to be worthwhile and perform accordingly.
10. Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore - In both the last two seasons of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has bowled at an economy of less than 5 and has been amongst the top wicket takers as well. Unfortunately, he didn't feature for CSK in the 2020 edition even though he was part of the squad, but now as the tournament is back to Indian venues, he could get a chance to feature in the XI as the tournament goes on and the wickets help spinners, he could be a player to watch out for.
