5) STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
(i) The injured overseas talent - With Hazlewood, Shepherd, Bethell and Thushara coming from injuries into this tournament, and Ngidi having been injured since November made a comeback in the Champions Trophy but shall be prone to an injury in such a long tournament. With 5 of their 8 overseas players battling with very recent injuries, it could be a major factor for them this season.
(ii) An attacking middle order - Considering their ideal XII above, their middle order looks really strong and aggressive with a good depth as well. The Bethell-Livingstone-David trio is surely one of the most attacking and experienced overseas middle order. With Padikkal and Krunal around them, they get enough LHB-RHB combination throughout the middle. Each of them are also floaters and can bat anywhere according to their role and the situation of the game.
(iii) Inexperienced Indian seam unit - Apart from the two UP bowlers in Bhuvi and Yash, they lack experience or quality Indian seamers. They have relied on overseas seamers but with all of them battling with recent injuries, their seam unit looks a bit dicey to be consistent throughout this 2-month long tournament. The management can just hope that they have a decent pace attack in every game when they go on to the field.
(iv) A new captain - Patidar has been named the new skipper for the 2025 season after a successful campaign with Madhya Pradesh having led the team to the title in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 season. But we all know how different can a domestic league be from the biggest tournament across the world. It will be interesting to see how Patidar, alongside the experience of Virat and Bhuvi, take this team through this season. Having only played 27 IPL matches till date, he has the least IPL experience amongst all captains this season.
(v) The Number 18 - It is the 18th season of the IPL, as well as of Virat in the RCB, as he has never been a part of any other team since the very beginning of this tournament. The team, on paper does not look like a title winning squad, but it will be interesting for all RCB fans to see whether this will be Virat's season as one of the best performers of the season only, or will he lift the trophy finally too.
