5) STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
A) STRENGTHS
(i) A quality overseas unit - With the English trio in Bairstow-Livingstone-Curran, and of course the wicket taking Rabada, they probably have the best set of overseas unit in their Playing XI. Not only they are explosive in their batting firepower but also partnership breakers with the ball. All of them are flexible players as well and can bat/bowl at any phase of the game and can contribute anywhere.
(ii) An attacking batting unit - Apart from Dhawan, all their batsmen in the XI are attacking players. They have an attacking top order in Bairstow, Curran and Prabhsimran, followed by an even more aggressive middle order with Livingstone, SRK and Jitesh. They are going with the Windies' approach of having all attacking batsmen in the side revolving around one defensive player, so now it's time to see whether they end up scoring above par scores on most occasions or bundle out in a collapse. This is a proper T20 set-up with an attacking unit, so they'd hope for the batsmen to shine this season.
B) WEAKNESSES
(iii) Inexperienced Indian unit - They don't have a single experienced Indian player other than Shikhar. Although Rishi is an experienced domestic campaigner, and Arshdeep has played some International games, but if you look at proper experience in this format of the game, you can't pin a single player to stay calm and composed under pressure situations, and being a young uncapped unit doesn't help them have too many quality backup players for replacements of players in case of bad form or injury.
6) NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SQUAD FROM IPL 2022
(i) Sam Curran - This young all rounder from England has been in a dream form recently. Won the player of the series in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022. Picked up 6 wickets in the 2 ODIs he played against Bangladesh. He started his IPL journey with the Punjab Kings in 2019 and is now back with the side after a 2 year stint with the CSK. He used to bat in the top order for the Punjab Kings and bowl at the death too. Given his current dream run that he's been having and the fact that he's become the most expensive player at the Auction, he could be given that role with bat and ball again.
(ii) Sikandar Raza - The first Zimbabwe player to come into the IPL. Surely a huge moment for Raza. He's also been in a dream form in recent times. He was even selected in the ICC T20I and ODI XIs of the year 2022. He was also one of the 4 nominations of the Best Cricketer of the Year 2022, as well as the Best T20I Cricketer of the Year 2022. He has also been a top player for the Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2023. He averages 88.50 in the 7 games he's played there, and has also been picking up wickets when got a chance to bowl, even if it was just one over.
(iii) Harpreet Bhatia - This batsman from Chattisgarh has scored 4 fifties and 3 hundreds in the last 13 innings of his domestic performances, any format considered. He has been part of the domestic circuit since 2008, and has played 77 T20 games, wherein he's scored 2202 runs, at an average of 37, and a strike rate of 125. He even played in the IPL in 2011 for the Pune Warriors India, where he got 4 games to play but couldn't make a mark, having scored only 20 runs at a strike rate of only 77.
(iv) Vidwath Kaverappa - This seamer from Karnataka played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 season for the first time, and immediately made a mark with his consistent wicket taking abilities. He was the 2nd highest wicket taker of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 Season, where he picked up 18 wickets in 7 games, at an economy rate of below 6, and a strike rate of just 10. He is a wicket taking bowler and could be a good differential pick when he plays.
(v) Mohit Rathee - This all rounder from Haryana started playing competitive cricket only in December 2022, and has already caught the eye of the Punjab Kings' scouting team. He has only played 4 games in the first class format, having scored 138 runs, at an average of 17, and picked up 9 wickets to his name. He shows great potential with both bat and ball, and is said to be a good backup to Chahar in the squad, as the only other Legbreak option in the side.
(vi) Shivam Singh - Yet again, another player who started playing competitive cricket only a few months back, and has played only 5 first class games, wherein he's scored 229 runs, at an average of 25. This player from Bihar also caught the eyes of the scouting talent of the Punjab Kings and they consider him to be a sought-after batsman who can be groomed as a young prospect under the guidance of some experienced batsmen, and ofcourse the two legendary batting coachea in Haddin and Jaffer.
7) STATS FROM OVER THE YEARS (as part of any team before this)
(i) Top Run Scorers
-> Shikhar Dhawan - Runs (6244), Avg (35.08) - 206M/205I

-> Rahul Chahar - Wickets (57), Avg (25.91), SR (20.70) - 55M/54I
8) UNKNOWN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR IF THEY PLAY
(i) Baltej Singh Dhanda - This fast bowler from Punjab, though bowls at a normal speed of 130s, is known to be a wicket taking bowler and has played a huge role for Punjab across seasons and formats. He has been playing in the domestic circuit since 2011, and the T20 format since 2016. He is known to have picked up 4 wickets against Rajasthan and 3 against Vidarbha in the most crucial games early on in his career, wherein he also got the middle stump of the most sought-after Indian domestic batsman, Wasim Jaffer, who is know their coach. He has picked up 92 wickets in just 26 first class games. However, in the T20 format, he's picked up 40 wickets in 32 innings, at an economy rate of below 8.
(ii) Atharva Taide - A top order batting all rounder from Vidarbha, has been a part of the domestic set-up since 2018, and has scored 741 runs in the 30 T20 games that he's played, at an average of 27, and a strike rate of 130. Although, he is a part time spinner and doesn't bowl in every game, he has still picked up 10 wickets, and has bowled at an economy rate of a mere 5.4. He has been a match winner for Vidarbha on several occasions with either bat or ball, or both at times.
(iii) Raj Angad Bawa - This all rounder from Chandigarh first rose to shine when he performed really well in the 2022 U19 World Cup, where he played a huge role in contributing towards the team's victory of the Cup, and getting India their 5th title. He was one of the 3 Indians to have been selected in the Team of the Tournament, having picked up 9 wickets in 6 games, at a strike rate of 22, and having scored 252 runs in the 5 innings he got to bat, at an average of 63, and a high score of 162*. A true all rounder with a future long term potential. He has been more suited in the longer formats of the game, but can be groomed well into the shorter format too.
