5) STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
A) STRENGTHS
(i) A balanced unit - If you look at their batting order in the above given probable XI, they have a left-right combination all the way till No.11, with 5 of one and 6 of the other. And every batsman can play at any given position, depending on their role given by the management, and the on-field situation. In their bowling unit, they have enough variety with the ball, having an Offbreak bowler, a Legbreak bowler, a left arm orthdox, a couple of left arm seamers, as well as a couple of right arm seamers. They have enough bowling options for Rahul to keep rotating depending on the opposition matchups.
(ii) An attacking unit - In a T20 game, a side needs enough attacking batsmen so that they can be confident of scoring above par totals, as well as chase down high totals on days where the bowlers end up having a bad outing. Rahul is the only moderately defensive batsman in their Top 8 in the above probable XI, and even Rahul, when it comes to the IPL, can get attacking, and gets his form back. A combination of QDK, Pooran, Mayers, Hooda, Stoinis and Krunal add on to a huge list of explosiveness and also a good depth in the batting with Unadkat at 9 could help relieve pressure off of Rahul at the top.
B) WEAKNESSES
(iii) An under pressure skipper - A lot of the team's mentality and vibes and their on-field performances depends on how their captain handles the side. With Rahul being under scrutiny for his poor form, and having been removed as the Vice Captain from the Test format as well, and him not being able to contribute much with the bat in recent times, irrespective of the format, the pressure on him is already too much, and his mindset would not be in the correct place. All the team could hope is for senior players to step up, and for Rahul to get his confidence back, as he's been amongst the leading run scorers for the past few seasons, and this is his ideal format to get his form and confidence back.
(iv) An expensive bowling unit - When you look at the bowlers and their stint at the IPL over the years, or their recent form in the T20 format, you see players like Unadkat, Sams, Shepherd, Avesh, Bishnoi, Krunal and Naveen, who are all usually expensive in terms of their economy rate. Even Hooda who has been contributing more with ball than bat in recent times, is also not a full time bowler and can be expensive too. So, they could be wicket takers, but their economy rate could be a tricky aspect to manage for the team, and the higher number of bowling options in the side would have to help in this scenario.
6) NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SQUAD FROM IPL 2022
(i) Nicholas Pooran - This explosive wicket keeper batsman from the Windies is now playing for his 4th IPL franchise and has been roped in for a hefty price yet again from the auction. Irrespective of his poor form in the IPL over the past few seasons, the franchise knows he has a lot of potential with his explosiveness and can be an ideal finisher alongside Krunal and Stoinis. He has a strike rate of more than 150 in the IPL and that's the aggression the team was looking for at their middle order.
(ii) Yash Thakur - This seam bowler from Vidarbha has been a consistent wicket taking bowler in the domestic circuit and it's been difficult for any opposition to play him well. He has been a top wicket taker for Vidarbha over the years. In the T20 format, he's played only 37 games till date, but has picked already up 55 wickets at a strike rate of just 13, and an economy rate of only 6.7. He's yet to make an IPL debut, and although with so many seam options in the side, it's still unlikely he gets a game in the initial phase itself, but one can expect him to make his debut this season, especially with the impact player introduction this season as well.
(iii) Jaydev Unadkat - This left arm seamer from Saurashtra has been a domestic legend, especially in the recent years, having been one of the leading wicket takers in the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the recent few seasons. He has also been a huge contributor with the bat, and has played a major role, not only as an all rounder, but also as the captain of the side, to lead the team to greater heights and even get the title in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2022-23, as well as the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23. He has also played for a few IPL franchises in his career, and now would look to make a mark for another new franchise for him. Know that he has already played earlier under the same owners, for the Rising Pune Super Giants.
(iv) Daniel Sams - This all rounder from Australia has impressed everyone with his hitting prowess as well as his consistent wicket taking abilities and has made a huge mark in the BBL over the last couple of seasons. He has picked up 100 wickets in 74 games that he's played in the BBL, at a strike rate of below 15. However, he's yet to make that kind of a mark in the IPL. He had a good season with the ball for the Mumbai Indians in the last season, having picked up 13 wickets in the 11 games he played, at a strike rate of 19, and an economy rate of less than 9. He is a quality all rounder and adds to value to an already strong set of All Rounders in the squad.
(v) Romario Shepherd - This all rounder from the West Indies first caught eye of everyone in the 2022 CPL season, becoming the highest wicket taker of that season. Not just that, in a game against Jamaica Tallawahs, the team was struggling at 75/7 in 11.2 overs, when Shepherd ended up scoring 72(31)* and also picked up 3 wickets with the ball and led the team to victory single-handedly. He has been a good attacking batsman for the teams he's played in, as well as a good wicket taking death bowler. He played only 3 games for the Sunrisers in the last season, where he scored at a strike rate of 142, and a bowling strike rate of 18. He could be expensive at times with the ball, but will deliver with wickets, or compensate with runs from the bat, but will almost always contribute to the team.
(vi) Swapnil Singh - This left arm spin all rounder from Baroda, now Uttarakhand, was a part of the 25 probables for the 2008 U-19 World Cup, but ultimately wasn't selected in the final squad. He made his first class debut at the age of 15 years itself, and has now played 67 T20 matches in the domestic format, having scored 770 runs at an average of 21.4, and has picked up 58 wickets, at an economy of less than 7 and a strike rate of 21. He has been a match winning all rounder in the domestic circuit, but yet to make an IPL debut. He's the ideal backup to Krunal in the squad in case of any injury/poor form.
(vii) Yudhvir Charak - A seam bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, not known for his T20 bowling, rather his batting strike rates in the limited overs format. Although he's only faced 33 deliveries in T20s, and 25 in List A, he has a strike rate of 194 and 208 respectively in the formats. However, being a bowler, he's not a wicket taker as such. He's played 14 T20 games, in which he's managed to pick only 4 wickets, at a strike rate of 55, and an economy rate of 10.
(viii) Naveen Ul Haq - This bowler from Afghanistan gets his maiden call-up to the IPL after consistent wicket taking performances in the various T20 leagues across the globe. He has played in the T20 Blast, the Lanka Premier League, the Caribbean Premier Legue, the Bangladesh Premier League, as well as the Big Bash League in the last couple of years, and has gained enough experience in this format of the game, and not just the domestic career, but also has a bowling strike rate of just 15 in the T20Is, in the 25 games he's played for Afghanistan as of date.
(ix) Amit Mishra - 3rd highest wicket taker in the history of IPL, having played more than 150 matches. He's been an IPL legend and is a veteran of this format of the game. His experience to the side and some amazing performances for Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 Season surely adds a lot of value to the Super Giants this season, especially with a comparatively inexperienced spin unit when it comes to this format of the game.
(x) Prerak Mankad - Another player from Saurashtra who has been a major part in their success over the past couple of seasons. He is a quality all rounder as well. He has been part of the domestic set-up since 2015, and has played enough games in every format to gain enough experience. He has played 42 T20 games, where he's scored 877 runs, at an average of 30, and a strike rate of 143, and has also picked up 22 wickets, at a strike rate of 22. He made his IPL debut for the Punjab Kings last season, but only got one game to play, where he only got one delivery to face, and scored a boundary even at that. Surprisingly, he wasn't played again and now is part of a new franchise.

8) UNKNOWN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR IF THEY PLAY
(i) Mayank Yadav - Another fast bowler in their squad. He's more known for his wicket taking abilities in the List A format, having picked up 16 wickets in 7 games. However, in the T20 format also, he's been a consistent wicket taker in the 5 games he's played. He's picked up 7 wickets, at a strike rate of 14, and an economy rate of 6.6. He was part of the squad last season too, but didn't get a chance to make a debut. He would hope for a chance to prove his worth this time around.
(ii) Karan Sharma - This batting all rounder from Uttar Pradesh made his debut for the Super Giants in the previous season, though only played one game where he managed to score only 4(4). He is a moderate batsman and not too attacking as such, but a consistent run scorer in the domestic format. In 18 T20 games he's played, he's scored 544 runs at an average of 38.85, and a strike rate of 126. He has also picked up 10 wickets, at an economy rate of 6.4, and a strike rate of 15. He's a part time bowler but does deliver whenever thrown the ball.
