5) STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
A) STRENGTHS
(i) An experienced batting unit - When you see this lineup, you see a lot of experienced players in Conway, Rayudu, Moeen, Stokes, Jadeja and MSD. Gaikwad has also been a huge asset at the top of the order for them in the previous seasons. Even if they bring in Rahane or Dube in the XI, they are also experienced enough in this format of the game. They have a well balanced and a well sorted batting unit, especially one that can calmly push through pressure situations.
(ii) A balanced combination - They have all possible combinations available in their Playing XI itself. A left arm seamer, a left arm spinner, a couple of off-break bowlers, a couple of right arm seamers, so MSD could easily rotate bowlers depending on the matchups against the opposition batsmen, which could be a crucial thing for him. They also have enough left handed and right handed batsmen in their batting order to continue their Left-Right combination and send any batsman depending on the situation to continue the momentum and to put pressure on the fielding side.
B) WEAKNESSES
(iii) An inexperienced bowling unit - The same issue like the previous season with their bowling unit. Although Mukesh Choudhury delivered with the new ball as well as at the death on most occasions, their inexperience with Mukesh, Simarjeet and Theekshana as their core bowlers, and Jadeja not having had an impact with the ball in the last couple of seasons, could be a huge issue for them. Chahar is coming fresh from his injury and will be making his comeback straight in the IPL, and it could get tricky for him to be the most experienced core bowler in the side, alongside Stokes who also is going to be available only for some of the initial games.
(iv) Unavailability of players - Deepak Chahar is coming out of an injury. Ben Stokes will not be available for majority part of the season due to his International Test Schedule. Kyle Jamieson is out with an injury. Ravindra Jadeja has been prone to injury for a while now, and been playing constantly in the Test series ahead of the IPL as well could force the management to manage his workload to avoid another injury scare. So, major players who are match winners missing out could be a huge loss to the team.
6) NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SQUAD FROM IPL 2022
(i) Ajinkya Rahane - Been a part of the IPL ever since its initial edition in 2008. Has played for Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, and the Kolkata Knight Riders last year. He has played in the IPL under MSD when he was in the Rising Pune Supergiants, and would look forward to another edition under him. He hasn't had a good IPL form in the past three seasons, but would look to perform whenever he gets a game.
(ii) Ben Stokes - He is said to be available only for the initial few matches, before he returns to England to prepare for the various International matches scheduled for him, ahead of the Ashes ahead. He's been given a hefty amount in the Auction and would be a sure starter in their Playing XI. How many ever games he plays, he will surely a match winner for CSK.
(iii) Shaik Rasheed - He was a top order batsman of the Indian U-19 World Cup 2021-22 team, and scored 334 runs at an average of 56 in the 8 games he played in the World Cup. He is a technically sound player, and not a big hitter of the ball as such. Plays for Andhra Pradesh in the domestic circuit and has only played 3 games in the T20 format, where he's scored only 56 runs, at an average of 28, and a strike rate of 112.
(iv) Nishant Sindhu - The Left arm spinner from Haryana took 25 wickets in the 12 games he played in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy season. He was also a part of the winning Indian U-19 World Cup set-up, where he got 8 wickets in the 9 games he played that season. In the T20 format however, he has picked up only 5 wickets in the 6 innings that he's bowled in, but at a strike rate of 19.
(v) Ajay Mandal - A bowling all rounder from Chattisgarh. He has been part of the domestic circuit since 2016, but is part of an IPL franchise for the first time. He has waited for this a long time, and would like to bring his domestic experience to the CSK franchise, which anyway lacks quality Indian spinners apart from Jadeja. He has picked up 28 wickets at a strike rate of 22 in the 34 games he's played, and has scored 246 runs at a strike rate of 118. He is better in the longer formats of the game, but under some amazing players and coaching staff, he would look gain more exposure in this format of the game as well.
(vi) K Bhagath Varma - The off break bowler from Hyderabad was part of CSK last season as well, and was bought for a lesser price at the auction again this year. He has only played 5 T20 games till date, and picked up only a couple of wickets, but having been part of the CSK Franchise since 2021, the team management does see potential in him.

8) UNKNOWN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR IF THEY PLAY
(i) Subhranshu Senapati - The captain of Odisha, he was in the CSK squad in the previous edition as well, but didn't feature in a single game then. He was the leading run scorer of the 2021-22 Vijay Hazare Trophy, and is known to be a technically sound player. He has an overall strike rate of 120 in the 43 T20 games that he's played in the domestic circuit, and would like to make his debut this season atleast.
(ii) Prashant Solanki - A legbreak bowler from Mumbai. He made his debut for CSK in previous season where he bowled his spell of 4 overs at a mere economy of 4.5, and picked up 2 wickets in his very second outing, but unfortunately didn't get another game after that. He played only two games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2022 Season as well, and picked up a wicket each in both games.
