5) STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
A) STRENGTHS
(i) A set of quality all rounders - Russell, Narine, Wiese, Southee, Shakib, Venkatesh, Nitish and Shardul comrpise of a really qualitative set of all rounders in their unit, all players capable of batting or bowling in different phases of the game depending on the situations, and end up contributing with either bat or ball in every game. A good set of 5 overseas all rounders, all experienced by playing various T20 leagues across the world, revolving around the youngster Venkatesh and the new addition of Shardul into the side, definitely gives a lot of bowling options and a good batting depth to the KKR unit this season.
(ii) A well balanced batting unit - Not only do they have enough left-right combination players in their Top 7, who can all bat well at any given position, they also have a good balance between attack and defense with Shreyas and Jagadeesan handling the defensive aspect, while the others can go berserk around the park. Not only in their probable XI, but even their bench strength has moderately defensive players in Mandeep and Shakib, alongside attacking batsmen in Das, Rinku and Gurbaz. This is a good batting unit, which would look to score above par totals in every game.
B) WEAKNESSES
(iii) Lack of spin options - In their ideal XI, they only have 2 spin options, both offbreak bowlers, not giving them a different variation, i.e., bowlers who could turn the ball away from the right handed batsmen. Their part timer Nitish is also the same. They only have two other spinners in their entire squad, one in Shakib, who could come in only if they remove Wiese or Southee, which could be necessary to be done on spin friendly wickets. Anukul, on the other hand, has been part of the IPL set-up since 2019, but has only played 3 games in the last 3 years, so unlikely for him to feature. Not having a quality leg spinner in the entire squad or a left arm orthodox in their ideal XI could cause trouble.
6) NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SQUAD FROM IPL 2022
(i) Narayan Jagadeesan - A technically sound batsman from Tamil Nadu. A consistent batsman in the longer formats of the game. Recently played a knock of 277 in a Vijay Hazare One Day Trophy. He has been one of top run scorers in the previous couple of Tamil Nadu Premier League seasons, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, as well as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and he's a really good underrated wicket keeping batsman in the domestic set-up. He has played 51 T20 games wherein he's scored 1064 runs, at an average of 32.24. With the absence of Indian keepers in the side, expect Jagadeesan to feature in their ideal XI. He has also played 7 matches in the IPL, where he's scored 73 runs, at an average of 24.33.
(ii) Vaibhav Arora - This fast bowler from Himachal Pradesh made his debut in the IPL last season having played 5 games, where he managed to pick up only 3 wickets, and was removed from the side due to his economy rate of 9, and strike rate of 36. However, in the domestic circuit, he's played 19 matches, where he's picked up 22 wickets, and has been a match winner with the ball for Himachal Pradesh in the various formats.
(iii) Suyash Sharma - A young 19 year old leg spinner from Delhi, who is considered to be a mystery spinner and his bowling videos while playing practice matches for KKR in the camp have been up on the YouTube and his mystery spin has got the batsmen thinking. A perfect combo to the two existing mystery spinners of Narine and Varun in the side to make it a quality trio. He hasn't played any competitive cricket yet, but could be a trump card when he plays and his mystery abilities could surely cause havoc.
(iv) David Wiese - Although he's originally a South African cricketer and has played in the IPL in the past, but he becomes the first Namibian player to be a part of an IPL squad. He has played a huge role in every franchise tournament across the globe, whether it's the CPL, the BBL, the T10 Leagues, or the ongoing PSL, and has been a match winner and a quality all rounder in all the leagues. He played all 14 IPL matches way back in the 2014 season, and not only did he score 122 runs, at an average of 30.50, and a strike rate of 142, but also picked up 16 wickets, at a strike rate of only 16. He is a quality all rounder and a perfect middle order batsman to support Russell from one end.
(v) Kulwant Khejroliya - This left arm seamer from Delhi has been playing in the domestic side since 2017. He's been part of the Mumbai Indians, the Royal Challengers Bangalore and now with the Kolkata Knight Riders after a 4 year gap. He last played in the IPL in 2019, and has now been bought in the auction after a huge gap. He played 5 games for RCB back in 2018-19, and only took 3 wickets, at an economy rate of 9.7, but a strike rate of 19. He has also only played 8 T20 games for Delhi, where he's picked up only 6 wickets, at a strike rate of 28, but an economy rate of 7. He's the only Left Arm seam option in the KKR squad, so if they look for a variation in their seam attack, he could get a chance to play and try to make a comeback.
(vi) Litton Das - A debutant when it comes to the IPL. He has always given good starts in the powerplay against India and has a strike rate of 148 against India, though he only has an average of 14.67 in the 6 games he's played in India, at a strike rate of 126. He is a good striker of the ball and a good top order batsman. He's experienced in playing on the sub-continent wickets as well, but could be interesting to see if he makes his debut this season in the IPL.
(vii) Mandeep Singh - Another IPL veteran, and a highly experienced IPL player. Been playing in the IPL since 2010 and has played for various franchises. He has played for Kolkata Knight Riders as well in his initial season in 2010, and is now back with the franchise after 13 years. He has played 108 matches, in which he has scored 1692 runs, at an average of 21.42, though has scored only 33 runs in the 4 games he's played in the last two seasons, but his experience always comes in handy.
(viii) Shakib Al Hasan - The all rounder from Bangladesh needs no introduction. He is coming off a great form in the series against England, and he's a legend of this game undoubtedly. He has played 71 IPL games over the years since 2011, and has scored 793 runs, at an average of 19.83 and a strike rate of 124.49. He has also picked up 63 wickets, at a strike rate of 24, and an economy rate of 7.44. He has played with the KKR earlier and is back with the franchise.
(ix) Lockie Ferguson - A bowler from the New Zealand who consistently bowls at a speed above 140kmph and at good hard lengths. He tries to rattle the batsmen with his sheer pace, and he's one of those bowlers who'd either go wicketless or get wickets in a bunch. He has played in the IPL since 2017, and has played 35 games here, and has picked up 36 wickets, at economy of less than 9, and a strike rate of 21.
(x) Shardul Thakur - Another person who needs no introduction. He's been traded in from the Delhi Capitals for this season, and has been an experienced campaigner, having started his career under MSD. He is known to be a wicket taking bowler, but tends to be expensive at most occasions and ends up having a high economy rate, though would give you wickets especially at the death. He's picked up 82 wickets in the 75 IPL games he's played till date.
(xi) Rahmanullah Gurbaz - This explosive opener from Afghanistan has been traded in from the Gujarat Titans. He replaced Jason Roy in the Titans' squad in the last season, but didn't feature in a single game. He is yet to make his IPL debut, and if the KKR plan to take an overseas batsman at the top order, Gurbaz would be the front-runner for the same. He has played 38 T20Is, and has scored 941 runs at an average of 24.76, and a strike rate of 138. He isn't a consistent performer but when he scores, he goes big, and does give decent powerplay starts in almost every game.

8) UNKNOWN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR IF THEY PLAY
(i) Harshit Rana - KKR roped him in the last season as a replacement player to the injured Rasikh Dar, and was known to bowl at a sheer pace of 145kmph. Although he hadn't played any competitive cricket before that, he came in as a replacement and fearured in the playing XI straight off. He played 2 games to make use of his pace but only managed to pick 1 wicket, and bowled at an economy of just above 10, and was removed from the XI. He's been retained this season and he could feature in the XI in some game this season to use his pace again.
