5) STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
A) STRENGTHS
(i) A wicket-taking bowling unit - With the combination of Shami, Sai Kishore, Rashid and Hardik, they have a very impressive bowling unit and all of them are not only mostly economical bowlers, but also consistent wicket takers. Irrespective of whether they play Odean, Mavi, Dayal or Joseph, they'll just add more positive value to the already impressive bowling unit that they have.
(ii) A technically sound top order combined with an explosive lower order - The pressure comes off of the top order batsmen when there are reliable hitters in the lower order. With a trio of Gill-Williamson-Bharat at the top, they have a technically sound batting unit out there. And followed by a combination of Hardik-Miller-Tewatia-Odean-Rashid, they create an explosive lower middle order to capitalize on the death overs as well as on any slow starts given by the top order, if any.
(iii) Defending champions - A new franchise when they started their campaign in IPL 2022, and ended up being the most dominant side of that season, winning the trophy in their very first season. They've retained more than half of their players from the previous squad, and 6 out of the 7 players that they added in the auction this year are experienced and capped players, which just adds value to an already quality side.
B) WEAKNESSES
(iv) No offbreak bowler in their ideal XI - With there only being Noor and Jayant in the side as bowlers who'd take the ball away from the left handed batsmen, either of them coming into an already strong playing XI seems highly unlikely. Rashid and Sai Kishore both turn the ball the same way, and so does Rahul Tewatia if he's given the ball. Against teams that are heavy with lefties in their XI, they'll have to bring in Jayant for somebody and tamper with their winning combination.
6) NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SQUAD FROM IPL 2022
(i) Kane Williamson - Needs no introduction. One of the most technically sound players in the world. A legendary batsman and the former captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Coming on the back of a fighting century against England in what probably was the most exciting test match in recent times. He's trying to make a comeback of his form in the IPL after a not-so-good previous season, and what better to do it with the defending champions, with no pressure of the captaincy on him as well.
(ii) Odean Smith - An explosive hitter down the order, as well as a wicket taking bowler at the death. He may go for some runs, but will deliver with wickets as well as with runs with the bat. He's been playing T20 leagues all across the world and is gaining experience to keep his calm in pressure situations as well. A finisher alongside Tewatia and Miller could surely relieve pressure off of Hardik in the middle order.
(iii) Kona Srikar Bharat - Recently made debut for the Indian team and got capped in the Test format. The way he won the game for RCB against Avesh Khan, in the last over, in the 2021 edition is enough to show his true caliber with the bat. He didn't play in the previous season, when part of the Delhi Capitals, and in the absence of another currently playing capped Indian wicket keeper in the Gujarat Titans squad, he'd fancy his chances to be a sure starter in the playing XI, until the team goes with an overseas keeper or stick with Saha for the same.
(iv) Shivam Mavi - A seam bowling all rounder who recently got capped and contributed with bat in one game and with the ball in the other, in the series against Sri Lanka, and then with another couple wickets against the Kiwis recently. He's looked good with the ball and has shown improvement from the last time he played in the IPL, for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
(v) Urvil Patel - The wicket keeper batsman from Gujarat has been in the domestic circuit since 2018, but for the first time has been sold to an IPL franchise after 5 years of wait. Although he has only played 33 games in his T20 career, he has a good strike rate of 147, but averages only 22. He scored a 40(32) against a quality Saurashtra bowling unit. With Bharat, Saha and Wade in the squad, it's unlikely that Urvil could even get a game this season, but they'd surely look at him as a future prospect as a replacement to Saha.
(vi) Josh Little - Although currently injured and was ruled out of the PSL'23, he's the first player from Ireland to have joined an IPL team from the auction, and he went for a good price of 4.4Cr as well. A quality left arm seamer and has been playing various T20 Leagues across the globe, and has grown with the exposure he's gotten over time, and definitely would look to get some wickets under his name in the most popular T20 league as well.
(vii) Mohit Sharma - Making a comeback after 3 years in the IPL. He was a star for the Chennai Super Kings in his inaugural season in 2013, and has performed well in bits and pieces over the years whenever he got a chance. He played for the Punjab Kings from 2016-2018, and thereafter again joined his former franchise CSK in 2019. He only played one game in 2019 where he picked a wicket and bowled at an economy of 9, but didn't get another game, and then moved to the Delhi Capitals in 2020 where again he played just the one game. He is back into the IPL set-up with a different franchise now and would look to have a different fortune here.

-> Pradeep Sangwan - Wickets (38), Avg (32.63), SR (22.58) - 42M/42I
8) UNKNOWN PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR IF THEY PLAY
(i) Darshan Nalkande - The fast bowling all rounder from Vidarbha played in the initial couple of games last season for the Titans, where he did pick up 2 wickets, but went at an economy of 11.42, and was benched for the remainder of the season. Although, in the 34 T20 games that he has played in the domestic circuit, he has picked up 57 wickets, which is almost double the number of games, at a mere economy rate of 7.60 only. He would like to redeem himself if he gets a chance to prove his worth in this season.
(ii) Abhinav Sadarangini - The finisher from Karnataka could be an ideal choice as an Impact player for the team in case of early loss of wickets of the top order. He was in the main XI in the previous season and had a strike rate of 144 after playing 8 games for the Titans. He made his debut in the Quarter Finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy of the 2021 edition, and had immediately caught the eyes of every franchise at the auction table as an ideal finisher. He also had a strike rate of 178 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy of the 2022 season.
