There has been always a cat and mouse relationship between the Bowling economy and T20 cricket stroke-play.
In T20 cricket, it is a rare occurrence to see the bowlers scoring economy points in the 4 overs spell and IPL too has been no different.
Today we will be trying to decode the bowlers who have dominated the chart in order to become the most economical bowler of IPL.
Remember only the bowlers who have played a minimum of 50 IPL games and bowled a minimum 150 overs find their names in this list.
Rashid Khan: (Econ: 6.39, 91 Matches).*
When Rashid Khan burst into the IPL in 2017 season he was mainly treated as a potent wicket taking option who was picking up wickets for fun. However 5 years down the line, Rashid is no longer the wicket taking machine with 111 wickets in 91 appearances. Although he chips in with wickets at regular intervals, the batsmen prefer to see him out and that has resulted him in maintaining the best bowling economy rate in IPL ie 6.39.
Sunil Narine: (Econ: 6.63, 148 Matches).*
Sunil Narine has been a loyal servant for the KKR franchise for a decade now. The 2 time MVP of the tournament winner has turned many matches on his own with his mystery off-spin and as well as with the bat in hand. Narine has scalped 152 wickets in IPL and is no longer the potent wicket taking option that he used to be. But in the growing trend of unlocking the magic of mystery spinners, Narine has been still able to sustain his magic and has been found hard to score of.
Muthaiah Muralidharan: (Econ:6.67, 66 Matches).
Muralidharan has been undoubtedly the greatest off spinner of all times and has spread his magic even in the IPL. Muralidharan who featured in the inaugural stages of IPL has played 66 matches and ended up scalping only 63 wickets unlike his wicket taking abilities but he was hard to score of. He had an economy of 6.67 in IPL.
Dale Steyn: (Econ: 6.91, 95 Matches).
Dale Steyn has been one of the greatest fast bowlers of this generation and has blazed the IPL for 13 consecutive IPL seasons till 2020. Steyn who has played 95 IPL matches till date has scalped 97 wickets and went at an economy of 6.91. He also holds the least economy among the pace bowlers.
Ravichandran Ashwin: (Econ: 6.95, 182 Matches).*
Ravichandran Ashwin has been playing the IPL ever since its inception in 2008 and has been an asset for every side he has featured in. It has been highly remarkable of Ashwin who has played 182 IPL matches to maintain an economy rate of below 7 in his IPL career. Ashwin has also scalped 156 wickets in IPL.
Other notable entrants:
Harbhajan Singh: (Econ: 7.07, 163 Matches).
Lasith Malinga: (Econ: 7.14, 122 Matches).
Washington Sundar: (Econ: 7.22, 51 Matches).*
