In one of the previous articles we showed you which batsmen have the most number of IPL fifties. Today we will be looking at the batsmen who achieved it quicker. Presenting you the list of the top 10 quickest half-centurions in IPL.
1) Pat Cummins: 14 balls vs Mumbai Indians, MCA, Pune (2022).
The name might surprise a few but it is Aussie bowling all-rounder Pat Cummins who holds the record of scoring the fastest fifty in IPL. Cummins achieved this feat in a match against Mumbai Indians where he tonked 6 sixes and 4 boundaries to take KKR over the line. Cummins hit fellow countrymen Daniel Sams for 35 runs in a single over as KKR chased down 162 runs within 16 overs.
2) KL Rahul: 14 balls vs Delhi Capitals, Mohali (2018).
Kl Rahul holds the joint record of scoring the fastest IPL 50 along with Pat Cummins. Kl Rahul known as an aggressive stroke maker was at his absolute best when he hit the bowlers of Delhi Capitals all around the park in IPL 2018 and brought up a 14 ball 50. Rahul hit 6 boundaries and 4 sixes as KXIP chased down 167 in 19 overs.
3) Yusuf Pathan: 15 balls vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata (2014).
Yusuf Pathan is often touted as one of the destructive T20 batsmen of all time. Playing for KKR in IPL 2014, Yusuf went berserk after SRH bowlers. Restricting SRH to 160/7, KKR found themselves in all sorts of trouble at 116/5. Then walked in Pathan who started counter attacking from ball 1. Pathan brought up the fastest IPL half-century in IPL in just 15 balls. Not a single SRH bowler was spared as Yusuf finished with 72 off just 22 balls, his innings studded with five fours and seven maximums. It was hitting of the highest order and KKR managed to chase the target of 161 in just 14.2 overs.
4) Sunil Narine: 15 balls vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Bengaluru (2017).
Sunil Narine holds the record of the third quickest 50 in IPL. Narine who was promoted as an opener for the first time in IPL scored a brutal 54 off 17 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Narine’s innings was studded with 6 fours and 4 sixes as KKR chased down 159 easily to seal their playoffs berth that year.
5) Suresh Raina: 16 balls vs Punjab Kings, Mumbai (2014).
The 2nd Qualifier of IPL 2014 between CSK and KXIP was regarded as one of the highest run scoring fest match in IPL history. KXIP scored 226/6 batting first courtesy Virender Sehwag’s outstanding 122. Chasing 227, Suresh Raina produced the innings of a life time as he hammered the KXIP bowlers all around the park and brought up his fifty in 16 balls. Raina ended up scoring 87 off only 25 balls, his innings consisting of 12 fours and 6 sixes before being run out as CSK went on to lose the match by 24 runs.
6. Ishan Kishan: 16 balls vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dubai (2021).
Ishan Kishan of Mumbai Indians holds the record of scoring the fastest 50 for the franchise as he ended up scoring 84 off 32 deliveries, with 11 fours and 4 sixes bringing up his 50 in just 16 balls. Ishan achieved this feat in the last league game in IPL 2021. This is the fifth fastest fifty in IPL history.
7) Chris Gayle: 17 balls vs Pune Warriors India, Bengaluru (2013).
Chris Gayle currently holds the record of the highest score in IPL history with 175 runs. But not many know that he brought up his half century in 17 balls in that match. He smashed 13 fours and 17 sixes in that match.
8) Hardik Pandya: 17 balls vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Eden Gardens (2019).
In the battle of all-rounders in a match between the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, Hardik bettered Andre Russell by scoring a 17 balls 50 against the Knights. Hardik ended up scoring a 34 balls 91 in that match and hit 6 fours and 9 sixes.
9. Kieron Pollard: 17 balls vs Chennai Super Kings, Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi (2021).
Kieron Pollard too finds his name in the list of fastest 50s in IPL as he too brought up a 17 ball 50 against the Chennai Super Kings. Pollard scored an unbeaten 87 off 34 balls with 6 fours and 8 sixes as MI chased down CSK’s mammoth target of 219 in a last ball thriller.
10. Adam Gilchrist: 17 balls vs Delhi Daredevils, Centurion (2013).
Adam Gilchrist, recorded the quickest IPL 50 back in 2009 when he scored a match-winning 85 off just 35 balls against Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2009 semi-final. He led from the front as Deccan Chargers went on to lift their Maiden IPL title that year. Gilly’s innings was studded with 10 fours and 5 sixes.
