Cricket has evolved a lot in 144 years and the game itself has gone through numerous changes over the years. The changes has not only been confined to the rules of the game but it has also got transpired to the cricketers. Globalization of cricket has allowed the cricketers to now represent any country they wish for provided they are eligible.
While some migrate to other countries for better career opportunities whereas others prolong their career by representing another country. On one hand, some players got lost to oblivion even after taking a switch, the career of few others blasted off to a new level.
Today, we will be talking about those players who have played ODI for 2 different countries.
•Kepler Wessels is a former South African skipper and represented the Proteas in 1992 World Cup. But he even played 54 matches for Australia being the first player to do so.
•Clayton Lambert the former West Indian player played 12 ODIs for the West Indies in 1990-98 but turned uo for the USA in 2004.
•Anderson Cummins, a fellow Carribean too followed the suit but he turned up for Canada in 2007 after representing West Indies in 63 ODIs.
• Dougie Brown, former English all-rounder who played 9 matches for the Three Lions, played for Scotland later in his career.
• English Wicket keeper Geraint Jones played for 2 nations too. Jones who represented England in 49 ODIs turned up for Papua New Guinea for 2 matches.
• Ed Joyce too represented two nations in his career. He started of by playing 17 matches for England and switched to Ireland where he ended up playing 160 matches. Joyce represented Ireland at the World Cup and even led the Ireland team.
• Eoin Morgan is probably the only player whose career progressed paramountly after switching his career. Morgan debuted for Ireland and represented them at the 2007 World Cup. He returned back to represent England in 2015 and 2019 World Cups and even led England to the 2019 World Cup title.
• Boyd Rankin the Irish all-rounder had 3 stints for England and Ireland. He started from Ireland in 2007 moved to England in 2013 and returned back to Ireland in 2016 where he eventually retired.
•Luke Ronchi is another player who had a fairly successful career for New Zealand where he played 81 matches and represented New Zealand in 2016 T20 World Cup. But he started off his career in Australia but switched to the Kiwis later.
• Mark Chapman is another Kiwi player who could not establish himself in the New Zealand middle order but he started off his career in Hongkong and played 2 matches for them.
• Xavier Marshall played 24 ODIs for West Indies in 2005-09, he later went on to represent the United States in 13 matches after 10 years in 2019.
• Roelof Van der Merwe has been a global T20 franchise player and represented 2 nations in T20 cricket. Van der Merwe played for South Africa in 13 ODIs and even played in the 2009 T20 World Cup. He then turned up for Netherlands for 3 ODIs.
•Rusty Theron: Theron has been a household name in South African domestic cricket and played only 4 ODIs for them. Later on he represented the United States in 9 ODIs.
• Hayden Walsh: Hayden Walsh is a willy leg spinner and has impressed the West Indies team in the limited opportunities he got. He scalped 21 wickets in 13 matches. However not many know he debuted for the United States in 2019 and played 1 ODI for them.
•David Wiese: Wiese is currently the mainstay of Namibia. He is a star all-rounder and global T20 player but he started his career for South Africa in 2015 where he played 6 ODIs.
