Over the years, cricketing players across the globe keep their eyes glued on the IPL Auctions. While some players go for really high bucks in IPL Auctions while some get retained at the highest bracket price.
Today, we will be talking about 5 most expensive buys and 5 most expensive retentions in IPL History.
1. Kl Rahul: Rs 17 crores (LSG). (2022). (R).
Kl Rahul has been signed up as the first retention for the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2022 Auctions. The keeper batsman, who is also leading LSG was roped in for Rs 17 crores and emerged as the most expensive IPL Auction retention in IPL 2022.
2. Virat Kohli: Rs 17 crores (RCB). (2018). (R).
Virat Kohli has been playing the IPL since its inception in 2008 and is still growing strong. He remains the only player in IPL history to turn up for the same franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore for 15 years. Virat Kohli was retained as the most expensive player of all time ahead of IPL 2018 with a whopping price of Rs 17 crores.
3. Chris Morris: Rs 16.25 crores (RR). (2021). (B).
In the IPL Auctions 2021, South African star all-rounder Chris Morris broke all the auction records and was bought in by Rajasthan Royals for a record Rs 16.25 crores. With this Morris became the most expensive player in IPL history. However, Morris retired from all formats of cricket post the IPL 2021.
4. Rohit Sharma: Rs 16 crores (MI). (R).
Rohit Sharma holds the record of winning the IPL the maximum number of times as a captain. Rohit led Mumbai Indians to the IPL title for a record 5 times. Notably, a player of Rohit's calibre is bound to attract big bucks at the IPL auctions. Rohit Sharma was retained by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 16 crores ahead of the IPL 2016 thus becoming the most expensive in IPL 2016.
5. Rishabh Pant: Rs 16 crores (DC). (2022) (R).
Rishabh Pant has been named as one of the retentions by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL Mega Auctions 2022. The dynamic wicket keeping batsman who is also the current skipper of the Delhi Capitals was retained at the highest bracket price of Rs 16 crores in IPL 2022.
6. Ravindra Jadeja: Rs 16 crores (CSK). (2022) (R).
Chennai Super Kings are known for the legacy of the players. However, they took a fresh leaf out of their leagcy book when they went on to name star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as their most expensive retention ahead of IPL Mega Auctions 2022. Jadeja who eclipsed Ms Dhoni as the most costliest IPL player for CSK is also named as the captain of the franchise.
7. Yuvraj Singh: Rs 16 crores (DD). (2015) (B).
India's star batsman and Man of the Series of the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh sparkled a bidding war in the IPL Auctions 2015. Yuvraj who was often touted as one of the hottest properties in IPL triggered a bidding price of Rs 16 crores at the IPL 2015 auctions before being brought in by the Delhi Daredevils. He however was released the next year.
8. Pat Cummins: Rs 15.50 crores (KKR). (2020) (B).
Australian pacer Pat Cummins has been one of the most costliest player in IPL over the years. Pat Cummins was roped in by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping Rs 15.50 crores at the 2020 IPL Auctions. He thus became the most expensive player of the said season.
9. Kyle Jamieson: Rs 15.00 crores (RCB). (2021) (B).
IPL 2021 sprung in a lot of surprises and all-rounders were in demand. However, the auction that raised quite a eyebrows was the bidding war for Kiwi all-rounder Kyle Jamieson. Jamieson went for a high price of Rs 15.00 crores. Jamieson couldn't justify the tag for RCB and went unsold in the IPL 2022 auctions.
10. Hardik Pandya: Rs 15.00 crores (GT). (2022) (R).
Hardik Pandya started of as an all-rounder for the Mumbai Indians back in 2015 and was an integral part of the Mumbai Indians but his injury issues forced Mumbai Indians to let go off him ahead of the IPL Auctions 2022. Hardik was roped in by the Gujarat Titans for Rs 15.00 crores and became one of the most expensive signings for the Gujarat Titans.
