Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the IPL.

 

•What is MVP?

MVP or the Most Valuable Player is a term coined to acknowledge the best player in a tournament.

•How is the MVP of the tournament calculated?

Generally the MVP of the tournament is decided using a separate rating system where there are pointers for every fours, sixes, wickets, catches, stumpings and even dot balls.

 

The point system is as follows:

 

1. For every boundary: 2.5 Points.

2. For every maximum: 3.5 Points.

3. For every catch: 2.5 Points.

4. For every stumping: 2.5 Points.

5. For every wicket: 3.5 Points.

6. For every dot ball bowled: 1 Point.

 

•Who have been the Past Winners of the MVP?

 

The MVP concept came into existence from IPL 2013. It replaced the Man of the Series concept from the previous editions.

The winners of the MVP of the IPL are as follows:

 

*Shane Watson won the first MVP of the tournament award in IPL 2008.

*Harshal Patel became the only uncapped player to win the MVP of the tournament in IPL 2021.

 

 

*The likes of Shane Watson (2008, 2013), Sunil Narine (2012, 2018) and Andre Russell (2015, 2019) are the only players to win the MVP of the tournament twice.

 

Sunil Narine and Ben Stokes are the only players to win the MVP award in their debut IPL season.
