IPL has been seen as the ultimate benchmark in Franchise cricket. Intact, it is that exclusive IPL contract that every T20 player aspires to play for.
Now over the years, many overseas players have participated in the IPL and the Australians are one of the front runners in that. From Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting to modern day T20 greats every Australian player has been a part of the IPL. Even in IPL 2022 Mega Auction, it is the Australians who have registered themselves at the maximum with 57 number of entrants that includes capped as well as uncapped Aussie cricketers.
Today we will be talking about 5 BBL stars who might make it big in the IPL Auctions.
1. Mitchell Marsh: The Aussie Allrounder is probably at the peak of his career currently. He has been a regular player in white ball cricket where he has been groomed as Australia's premier all-rounder. In T20 his stakes get a bit higher as he bats in 3 or 4 and gives that 5th bowling option. In the recently concluded BBL, Mitch Marsh scored 347 runs in 8 innings that included a Hundred in the Finals as his team Perth Scorchers won the 4th title. He even picked up 5 wickets in BBL. Now Mitchell Marsh has played in 5 IPL editions with his debut season being way back in 2010. But over the years he has featured only in 21 matches as he was ruled out most of the times due to injury. With a base price of Rs 2 crores, Mitchell Marsh is bound to attract many bidders and may end up being the highest bidded player at the auctions.
2. Ben Mcdermott: McDermott has been a household name in Big Bash emerging as the highest run getter in the league with 2 back to back hundreds in his name. McDermott scored 377 runs in the Big Bash in 13 innings. A Right handed batsman, McDermott can keep wickets as well and thus he can earn quite a lot of big bucks as he enters the IPL Auction with a base price of Rs 75 lakhs.
3. Ashton Agar: Ashton Agar enters the IPL auction with the highest price bracket of Rs 2 crores. An left arm orthpdox spinner who can bat down the order, Agar has been one of the main spin bowling all-rounders for Australia in International cricket. With the teams retaining the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel who offer similar attributes as that of Agar, Ashton Agar can be a prized pick in IPL Auctions.
4. Marnus Labuschagne: Marnus can bat, Marnus can bowl, Marnus can do anything on the cricket field. Marnus Labuschagne is one such cricketer who brings energy whenever he takes on the field. A top order batsman with ability to play both defensively and aggresively as per the situation, Marnus can be one of the lynch pin in the batting order. His leg spin is an added advantage too. With a base price of Rs 1 crores, Marnus can be a good value addition.
5. Hayden Kerr: Left Arm bowlers have always found themselves high on demand in the Indian sub continent. Daniel Sams did it last time and it is rookie Aussie pacer Hayden Kerr who can do it this time. Kerr picked up 25 wickets in 17 matches to emerge as the 2nd Highest Wicket Taker in BBL 2022. However it was his valiant effort of 98* as a pinch hitting opener that has raised his stakes. He too enters the auction at a base price.
