Bowlers with most ODI Hattricks

Hat tricks are one of the special achievements for any bowler in cricket. Be it a Test match, ODI or a T20 International, hattricks have been always cherishable from a bowler's point of view.

In One day Internationals as many as 49 bowlers have taken a hat trick. The first ODI hattrick was taken way back in 1982 by Pakistan's Jalal-ud-din whereas Kuldeep Yadav took the most recent hattrick in 2019.

In this article, we will be discussing about the top 5 bowlers who have multiple hat tricks in their names.

1) Lasith Malinga:

There are only a handful of bowlers who have been fortunate enough to register a hattrick and there is Lasith Malinga who have had 3 ODI hattricks under his name. Known for his slinger action and ability to bowl in the block holes, Malinga even went a step further when he went on to scalp 4 wickets in 4 balls against South Africa in 2007 World Cup. Apart from 2007 heroics, Malinga also have had hattricks against Kenya in 2011 World Cup and also against Australia. Malinga is currently the only bowler who has 2 ODI hattricks in World Cup.

2) Wasim Akram:

The Sultan of Swing also features in this list. Wasim Akram is currently the highest wicket taker in ODIs with wickets in his name. Akram too has 2 ODI hattricks in his name. The first hattrick Akram took against the West Indies when he swept off the tail by uprooting the stumps. Wasim Akram completed his second hattrick against Australia in 1990. One of the coincidences of Wasim's 2 ODI hat tricks was that all his victims were out bowled.

3) Kuldeep Yadav:

The only Indian bowler to have two ODI hat tricks under his name is Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep has achieved this feat against Australia in 2017 where he single handedly changed the momentum of the match. In the second instance, it was the West Indies that beared the brunt of Kuldeep's onslaughts.

4) Trent Boult:

The Kiwi Speedster has been a lethal force to reckon with in recent times with his speed and accuracy. Boult too has 2 ODI hat tricks under his name. His first one came against Pakistan in 2018 in Abu Dhabi when he sent back the Pakistan Top Three packing. His second hattrick came against arch-rivals Australia in 2019 World Cup.

5) Saqlain Mushtaq:

The original architect of the Doosra, Saqlain Mushtaq was virtually unplayable during his playing days. He won many matches single handedly for his team and has even 2 ODI hattricks under his name. His both the hat tricks came against Zimbabwe and one of them even came in the 1999 World Cup.

6) Chaminda Vaas:

The former Srilankan quick currently holds the best bowling figures in an ODI match with 8 wickets. But not many know that Chaminda Vaas also has 2 ODI hat tricks. He is the first bowler to have a hat trick in the first three balls in an innings. Vaas achieved this feat against Bangladesh in 2003 World Cup. Apart from this, Vaas also has an ODI hattrick against Zimbabwe in 2001.
