The 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup finally came to an end with Australia clinching their maiden T20 World Cup title.
The 7th edition had moments of joy and heartbreaks for many cricketers as well as cricket fans across the world. Infact, this edition will go down in history as one of the most competitive T20 competition witnessed ever.
Based on the performance and the exploits of the cricketers, team Fantasy Arena has compiled the "Team of the Tournament."
So here it goes:
•Openers:
David Warner: When David Warner arrived for the T20 World Cup, he was a man who was short in confidence and unsure about his future in Aussie colours. By the time the T20 World Cup ended, Warner had not only secured his future but also had notched up his name in Australia's maiden T20 World Cup triumph. His Man of the Tournament being the icing on the cake though. Warner finished the World Cup with 289 runs, ended up being the 2nd Highest Run Getter in the tournament with a brilliant match defining 53 in the Finals.
Mohammad Rizwan: Rizwan has been a revelation for Pakistan in the last couple of years and when he walked into the T20 World Cup, he rightly proved why he is called so. The attacking Pakistani Wicket Keeper batsman who recently went on to become the only batsman to score 1000 runs in T20s in a calendar year, piled up 281 runs in 6 innings in the World Cup. He averaged 70.25 in the event with a highest score of 79. He is also the Wicket keeper of the side based on his judgement behind the stumps.
•Middle Order:
Babar Azam: Babar Azam put all the comparisons with modern day greats to rest when he led the "Underdog" Pakistan team to the Semifinals with his brilliant batting and captaincy. From beating arch rivals India with his on field tactics and batting to reach the Semi Finals unbeaten and unscathed, Azam has been methodical as well as exceptional on the field. Infact, it was Babar Azam who made the Pakistan team look like World Beaters. Although he ran out of luck in the Semis, but Babar Azam finished the World Cup as the Tournament's highest run getter notching up 303 runs in 6 innings with a healthy average of 60 that included 4 half-centuries. He will also lead this side.
Jos Buttler: In the T20 World Cup, Jos Buttler did what he does the best. Going berserk from ball 1 and taking the match away from the opposition. Buttler was one of the brightest spots in England's batting lineup as he scored 269 runs in 6 innings with a strike rate of 151. Infact, Buttler ended up being sole centurion of the tournament with a score of 101 against Srilanka. He will take up the number 4 slot in this side.
Kane Williamson: Kane Williamson may have been on the receiving end of 3 consecutive World Cup Finals but the Southpaw has never disappointed his team with his performance. Infact, Williamson belongs to that rarest breed of cricketers who excel in all formats by playing copy book cricket shots. He was in his elements in the Finals when he notched up a 48 ball 85 that included 10 fours and 3 sixes. Williamson ended the tournament with 216 runs from 7 matches with an average of 43.20.
•All-Rounders:
David Wiese: David Wiese is one of the brightest spots in Namibia's lacklustre World Cup campaign. The former Protean all-rounder led from the front as he notched up 227 runs from 8 matches. He also picked up 6 wickets and is the designated all rounder of this team.
Dwaine Pretorius: Pretorius may not have the facts and figures behind him but scalping 9 wickets in 5 games with a healthy average of 11 showcases the amount of skill that the South African all-rounder posseses. He can even tonk a few if required. The fact that Pretorius made it into the side owing to the fact that he bowled majorly in the death overs.
•Bowlers:
Wanindu Hasaranga: Srilanka had a disastrous World Cup campaign winning only a solitary game in the Super 12 but Wanindu Hasaranga will go down as the highest wicket taker in this edition. Hasaranga picked up 16 wickets in 8 matches at an average of below 10. He even scored a match defining 71 against Ireland in the Qualifiers.
Trent Boult: He can pick up wickets up front as well as in the death. He can swing the new ball early in the innngs and can bowl cutters as well in the death. He can bowl quick and has picked up 13 wickets in 7 matches with his shear pace and swing. Trent Boult is the strike bowler in this side.
Adam Zampa: Adam Zampa played a pivotal role in Australia's maiden T20 World Cup triumph. The leg spinner picked up 13 wickets in 7 games and ensured that the opponents do not run away with the game in the middle overs. Zampa was not wicketless even once in the tournament and even picked up a 5 wicket haul in the World Cup.
Anrich Nortje: Anrich Nortje has slowly and steadily eclipsed Kagiso Rabada as South Africa's primere strike bowler. The lightning quick has a knack of picking up wickets in a bunch and will be the partner in crime of Trent Boult in the side. Nortje finds his name in the exclusive list of bowling the fastest ball in the tournament and has picked up 9 wickets in 5 innings at an impressive average of 11.
